Re: Administrator Account

Ok Shank,

Since none of the above helped, try running a sfc /scannow command to see if is can find and fix any problem with the system files.

How to Repair and Verify the Integrity of Vista System Files with System File Checker

If that does not help, then you can do a Repair install if you have a Vista Express or Retail installation DVD. This will allow you to repair your Vista installation without losing your files, settings, and programs.

Re: Administrator Account

Hi NicksonBlue,

You can if you want to.

It will not be as secure as using a normal Administrator account with UAC turned on.

Not sure what your question is.

This built-in Administrator account acts like the one in XP without UAC and with full permissions.

Re: Administrator Account

I have tried both ways on and off and I am still unable to uninstall a program when it is selected in programs and features in control panel.

Again when I select a program the uninstall display do not come up where I have the choice to uninstall a program

Thanks

Re: Administrator Account

Hi Bluedog,

If the Uninstall option does not appearing when you select a item in Programs and Features, then the folder view and template settings may be off. Try resetting the folder view settings using Method Two in this tutorial, then open Programs and Features to see if it will appear now.

Re: Administrator Account

Hi Shawn,

I just joined yesterday but I've been reading these forums for a while. A lot of good stuff on here. Good Job! One question for you. I created an Administrator account and decided to change the name to Test (for example). When I tried to rename the account back to Administrator, I got an error message saying that this name already existed, please choose another name. Well, this bugs me because there is only one TRUE Administrator and if HE can't change his name, who can? LOL. I've tried turning off the Administrator account, deleting the Administrator user folder (in Safe Mode), and then turning the Admin account back on, but low and behold, the same user name comes up, Test. Do you know a workaround for this?

Re: Administrator Account

Hi Musicmanrdu,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

Normally, I would advise you to creates a new account and delete the old one to fix this problem. However, since this is the Built-in Administrator account, I can only recommend a Repair install. This will allow you to repair your Vista installation and keep your other user account files, settings, and programs.

Repair Install For Vista

Hope this helps,
