Re: Take Ownership of file

Hello Matt,

They work just fine with Vista SP2. Are you doing this from within an administrator account? You will not be able to from a standard account.

Re: Take Ownership of file

Hello Tideripper, and welcome to Vista Forums.

That was just an example. You would want to right click on the external drive in Computer and click on Properties instead.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello, Im trying to delete a registry key: " "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\SW\{96e080c7-143c-11d1-b40f-00a0c9223196}".

When I try to take ownership and check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" I get "Registry Editor could not set owner on the key currently selected, or some of its subkeys". I have tried to take ownership and delete every subkey but I get the same message. Any suggestion is welcome.

Oh I forgot, I have tried with safe mode, still the same.

Re: Take Ownership of file

Hello Tremor,

It's the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\SW\{96e080c7-143c-11d1-b40f-00a0c9223196}\Properties key that is being denied access.

You will have to take ownership of it, Add your user account to "Group or user names" (step 15 Method Two - Option Two), give yourself "Full Control" (step 18). Inbetween each step, you will have to click on an additional OK to approve it. Afterwards, you should be able to modify or delete it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Take Ownership of file

Thank you very much for helping me; the problem was that "properties" had some subkeys too that I didn't check (my mistake) after I took ownership of those I was able to delete the hole key. Thanks again for your time.
