Re: Take Ownership of file

Hi.
Only turned to this forum out of desperation as I have been unable to delete a video file.
Excellent forum and advice! After working a long night, I went home and followed instructions to take ownership of the file via Method One.Being of the older generation and not well-up on the technical side of things, the method was idiot-proof and allowed me to delete the file straight away. Thank you and keep up the excellent work !

Re: Take Ownership of file

Hi TomBoy, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Not sure what your question is.

From the error message, it looks like Windows Media Player (WMP) is crashing on you. If this is the case, it may have a bad plug-in installed causing it. In WMP, click on Tools, Plug-ins, and Options. Next, Remove any plug-in you think may be the cause until you find it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Take Ownership of file

I think I have a related problem, but am not sure. If this is the wrong place to ask, please direct me to the correct one.

The situation:
I have a folder named Documents on partition Data ( E: , The folder is hidden and I haven't been able to unhide it despite carrying out (or trying to carry out) your instructions. I do have access to the folder and was even able to drag the subfolders into another folder on Data ( E: , but I find it very weird that the folder does not show up on Data ( E: , To illustrate what I mean I put two screen shots online:

missing folder

The questions:
Am I right in thinking this is a question of ownership or have I somehow messed up a systems folder?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Re: Take Ownership of file

Hi A. Translator,

I'm not sure why this is happening, strange. I do not believe it will be a permission issue though. You might also post this question in the General Discussion forum and the Vista General newsgroup sections to see if anyone may know of a solution for this.

Re: Take Ownership of file

Hello. I just found this place and I hope you can help.I can't take ownership of a music file or folder to move it to another folder location on the hard drive. I tried your steps through the cmd, and I get error messages like "invalid argument/option" or "file doesn't exist" (yet it is there in windows explorer in that folder). I have changed the owner in properties and I still get Destination folder access denied. You need permission to...etc. etc. etc. This is not the only song/folder that I'm having problems attempting to move/delete. Hope I'm making sense. OH, version of Vista is Home premium 32bit. Gateway laptop. Thanks in advance for help.

Re: Take Ownership of file

Hi TeeFran,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

What is the location (full path) of the file or folder on your hard drive and it's name, and where are you trying to move/copy it to?
