Re: New Folder

Howdy,

I was hoping this would fix my problem but alas, Not.
I recently installed PSP X2 and now when I right click and New there are 2 entries for Paint Shop Pro X2 Image.
I fixed it in XP (Ah, the good old days) using regedit but Vista has me baffled.
Any ideas on how I can remove the duplicate entry?

TIA,
Apfel

Re: New Folder

Hi Apfel, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might use the free pogram ShellExView and look for Context Menu "Type" items to see if you can find the extra one listed. If you do, then you can disable it to see if it was. You can then delete it or just leave it disabled.

ShellExView - Shell Extension Manager For Windows

Hope this helps,

Re: New Folder

Howdy Shawn,

I'm glad I stumbled across this site. Lots of great info.

It's getting weirder. Using ShellExView under Context Menu there was no mention of PSP X2. The only place it showed was under Thumbnail.
I right clicked on the desktop and one of the entries opened PSP X2 like it should and the other placed an icon on the desktop. See attached. Guess will have to keep digging.
I have a sneaking suspicion about dual booting to XP because other problems have come up that have been attributed to this fact by other app makers (Diskeeper being one). I am going to try that StopXP trick and see what happens

Thanks,
Apfel

Re: New Folder

Ok,

I have not used PSP X2, but have you checked the settings for it to see if there is an option to remove something like the context or explorer item? Some programs will have options to let you add or remove them like this from these menus.

You might also see if using Compatibility Mode with PSP X2 may help.

Re: New Folder

I was looking at another thread for fixing context menu and checked HKey_Classes_Root\.bmp\Shellnew and noticed it pointed to @%systemroot%\system32\mspaint.exe,-59414 so I renamed shellnew to shellnew* like the thread suggested and now there is only one PSP X2 showing.
Like I said, a great site. Keep up the good work.

Re: New Folder

Interesting, I would not have thought to look at the .bmp file extension for this. Thank you for posting your results and solution.
