Just rename the txt file with the vbs extension.

Sid.

Sid,
You mentioned a txt file to measure boot time. That seems to be something I can use to see what improvements I am making as I try to speedup Vista bootup time.

If you would , I would appreciate an email with that file atteached.

Thanks,
Bill

Hello Bill,

You can get program to measure your boot time from within the tutorial below.

Okay. I did almost everything on this list and got my boot time to 83 sec. Now after a couple of weeks, its back to 137 seconds. I don't know what is wrong. I installed SUPERAntiSpyware and Zonealarm because I was recommended by BleepingComputers after I ran a HijackThis log for my parent's computer, but my internet was acting up. I didn't know if it was because of these programs, or not so I just did a system restore and it fixed the problem. But now, my boot up is so much slower. Any ideas?

Sorry if this isn't related to the tutorial. It's about boot, that's why I asked here. Please tell me to post this in a forum if it's not. Thanks.

Re: Boot Up

Hello Shortmantuff,

Depending on the date of the restore point, it may have undone some of the items on this tutorial. You might check back through them and the ones in the tutorial below to see if they are still set.

Speed Up the Performance of Vista

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

Re: Boot Up

Didn't even think about that. I'll check it out. Also, I made it so Realtek and Windows Defender Start on Boot. Would these slow it down a lot?

Re: Boot Up

No, those two should affect the speed much. Please let us know your results with the rest though.

Re: Boot Up

Alright, thanks. I will. Yeah, I just looked up the start-up programs list of what to keep and those were on it, so I started them. Before I only had 3 things start at boot. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Boot Up

Amazing tips; I'm just blown away by the impact they've had on my system. All I'm going to do now is buy another Gb of ram for the performance of my system and then vista should be running just as I want it.

Re: Boot Up

Okay, I looked at everything I changed from the list to Speed up the performance and everything I did changed was still changed.

One weird thing is I use Secunia PSI and it starts at boot, but is not in the list of Start-up programs. I want it to start, but it's just weird to me that it's not in the list.

Also, I ran a disk and registry defrag to possibly help with this. I use Auslogics Disk Defrag and Auslogics Registry Defrag. Are there better ones out there? And how come when I do a Virus scan and a disk defrag, they have different amount of files even though I select C:/ Drive for both of them. (Note: The virus scan has more files)

Another weird thing is when I rebooted, the hard drive light on my computer keeps blinking. Usually it goes away after a while you know. My last boot time was 134 sec.

Sorry for all the different questions.

Thanks.
