| Newbie Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: Windows Explorer Folder View settings Thanks for this fix. After a major re-hash of my Contacts I had found numerous folders with the Contacts details setup which is just about as useless as could be for any other type. I would suggest that for anyone else with that sort of mess that the Documents option is better than Unspecified for the default template at step 20 (or in the reg file) when it comes to sorting out the details afterwards. BTW is the reference to step 20 given at step 32 correct or should it be to step 29 ? Regards Tom |

It is correct in refering to step 20 in step 32. This is the option to change how all folder templates will be set (Ex: NotSpecified) as the default instead of how step 29 only changes the same folder templates as the current window Folder Options Apply to Folders was used on. I updated step 32 to make it more clear. Sorry about the confusion, and thank you for bringing it to my attention. ![]() Shawn |

My first impression is that the folder type is now solid but that the details and view set for folders can be upset by opening the "user's files" folder on the desktop. That's a bit like the effect I used to find in early versions of Windows when simply opening the 'Windows' folder would mess thing up. I don't know if others see this effect. I have desktop shortcuts directly to folders and others to Explorer with switches and a specific folder in the 'target' box and both types are steady now as are navigated folders. I don't use my Documents etc. folders much so it is still a good fix for me. Thanks again, Tom Ferit |

Yeah, the User folders are a bit trickier since they use a Symbolic Link (Junction Point). You will notice that the User folder when opened from the Start menu will have their own folder view memory than the same user folders at C:\Users\(user name) does, which has it's own folder view memory as well.
