Try applying the same folder template (Ex: Pictures and Videos) to all subfolders first, then try to apply the large icon view size to all subfolders.

First off, just wanted to thank Brink for this awesome guide, this is definitely one of my biggest peeves with Vista and by the results in this thread, it seems that it will work (I haven't tried it as I'm at work). However, I was wondering whether this applies to search results as well? It's very annoying how each time I do a search, I have to click on "Details" and "List"

Your welcome Doug, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Yes, it will apply to that as well. Afterwards, it will also depend on where the search was started, and what was it's view setting the last time that search location was closed.

Great! Thanks again, I just upped your rep, you deserve it. You should go work for Microsoft, maybe they can actually FIX this issue in Windows 7 instead of requiring crazy registry hacks to work around it

Well, so far it seems to working fine in Windows 7 (knock on wood).

is there a reg merge jiles to force full restoration of ALL VIST A defaults, so i can start mods from 'clean slate'?

Drumtrucker,

Yes, using the .reg file in METHOD TWO resets all the folder views to "Details" and templates to "All Items".

that's vista DEFAULT?
what about the 'smart' view?

It's not the Vista defaults, but it's the only way to reset the folder views back to a clean slate without reinstalling Vista.

how painful is a repair reinstall? i assume that is an option.
