| Vista | Re: CPU L2 Cache Memory setting in Vista I have set the registry and also changed the processor option to 2. I don't notice any performance improvements although the startup may have cut like 2 seconds or so - I'm not sure. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: CPU L2 Cache Memory setting in Vista Hi Shortmantuff, I don't know if I can get it any better than this below. It's unlikely that Vista will not be able to detect this though. ![]() Quote: The SecondLevelDataCache records the size of the processor cache, also known as the secondary or L2 cache. If the value of this entry is 0, Vista will attempt to retrieve the L2 cache size from the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for the platform. If Vista fails for some reason to retrieve the L2 cache size from HAL, then it uses a default CPU L2 cache size of only 256 KB. If the default value of the SecondLevelDataCache value is not 0, Vista will use the value (amount of memory) you set instead of 0 (for 256 KB) as the L2 cache size. This value is designed as a secondary source of cache size information for Vista when the HAL cannot detect the L2 cache from the CPU. |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: CPU L2 Cache Memory setting in Vista Does it make that big of a difference to do this or should I not even worry about it? I did almost everything else on your list of things to increase performance. Thanks for the tutorial Brink. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: CPU L2 Cache Memory setting in Vista In most cases it will not make any difference. It only would if Vista failed to detect HAL, which doesn't happen very often at all if ever. |
