Re: System Restore Point - create

Hello Shawn

Still a little confused I'm talking about using your scripts to turn off/on RP creation when installing drivers, this would work for any software updates etc as well wouldn't it???.

I plan on editing the scheduler to remove the daily RP leaving only the power on RP as I power down each day.

no daily RP
power up RP delayed 30 min
scheduler runs task to check for and download updates
scheduler runs task to check for viruses etc
RP is created
scheduler runs task to disable RP creation
........
User installs selected updates and software
........
User instructs system to shut down
scheduler runs task to enable RP creation
scheduler shuts down system.

My other confusion point is in reading the literature it states that SR need 300MB to function, assuming the system stores at least 3 RPs this implies 1 RP = 100MB, why on my 250GB drive is a single RP = 1.25GB and is this normal???

Once Again

Many Thanks

Felix W. Voragen.

Re: System Restore Point - create

No problem Felix,

It only specifies to stop restore points for when you install a device, which is usually the drivers. I would not believe that normal software would be included in this. Plus, some software, usually utility apps, have the option to force a retore point anyway.

Vista is good about making use of what you give it. The more you have the more it will make use of it. The 300MB is just the bare minimum of free hard drive space needed for SR to function.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
