| | Re: System Restore Point - create Hi Shawn, Let's say if I've created 5 restore points, is there any way to choose which restore point to delete? As far as I know Disk Cleanup can only remove all but the most recent restore point. |

| | Re: System Restore Point - create I'd like to point out that there is a scheduled service called SR that creates system restore points for you. By default (at least in Ultimate 64x SP1) the service is scheduled to create a restore point each time you boot up. If you are like me, and likely to run your machine for weeks at a time without rebooting, you might find that you want more restore points set. Also having the restore point created on reboot adds another 3 minutes (on my system) to that sluggish response time on startup. I have my machine set up now to create a restore point every night at 4:00am, before ritual rootkit scans and backups. It is fairly easy to edit the trigger for SR inside the Task Scheduler. Perhaps a tutorial on that would be appreciated? |

| | Re: System Restore Point - create I can see how it can be handy if one wanted to use System Restore, but not have as many automatic restore points created or change when they are created. It should pick up though. Thank you for the suggesting it. Shawn |

| | Re: System Restore Point - create Hello Shawn (Brink) So let me see if I got this all right? 1) we can use the vssadmin tool to set the size of the shadowstorage area 2) we can use your two downloads to turn on/off SR when installing updates 3) we can control auto daily and startup SR creation I ask this because I had a situation where the shadow area was 30GB it was full, there were only 25 restore points in there? 30G/25>1G. I thought SR only needed 300M to function. My HDD is 250GB so the 30GB is not the problem, its the 25 RPs secondly 7 of those RPs were due to microsoft updates on one day, 5 more from microsoft the day before all while I'm trying to load a batch of software myself that requires many restarts. All in all what I ended up with was 25 RPs covering 3.5 days, using 30GB on a 250GB drive, somethings not right? What I need is... 1 RP per day at startup for a month in as little space as possible Can you help F W. Voragen Newbee. |

| | Re: System Restore Point - create Hi F W. Voragen, You might see if also doing this tutorial can help. System Restore Point - Disable for Device Driver Install The only problem with turning System Restore off is that it also deletes all restore points. You could reduce the size of the storage area for System Restore, but it will not change them from being created. It will just not have as many restore points stored instead. Restore points are stored for up to 90 days or until there is no more space, then the older ones get deleted as new ones are added. About the only thing you can do is to delete all but the most recent one manually each month using Disk Cleanup. Hope this helps, Shawn |
