| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hi JBooysen, and welcome to Vista Forums. Thank you. However, UAC is just the security feature that asks the user for permission/confirmation before when an application is requesting to run as administrator. It does not always prevent the need to manually set an application to run as administrator though if it needs to be. Shawn |

| Vista x64 Home Premium | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hi TrevB, Welcome to Vista Forums. ![]() I hate to say this, but I would avoid installing any Symantec Norton antivirus program on Vista until they can fix the problem. There has been so many reported problems with Norton and Vista it isn't even funny anymore. I would recommend using something like the free Avast antivirus instead. It may have just saved you a headache later by not installing. http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hi all, I use a program callled Xfire which lets me connect to game servers by selecting a friends name and joining them via Xfire's ability to follow to that server. Under Vista, I am now confronted with the requirement of the program requiring UAC elevation to perform that task. I used it all the time under XP, but have just purchased a new computer with Vista Home Premium 64bit. Is there any way I can allow Xfire to have the necessary permissions to perform the tasks it used to do? Thanks in advance, Leviathan. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hello Leviathan, and welcome to Vista Forums. You could use Compatibility Mode on Xfire by right clicking on it's shortcut or exe file and using the Run this program as an administrator (step 8)option. Compatibility Mode Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hi Shawn, Thanks for your reply. I am have just tried running Xfire in compatability mode. It is still coming up with the same message. ![]() I have turned off the UAC to test the program, and it works fine with the UAC turned off, but I wanted to try to avoid that if I could. I am also running the main game I play in compatability mode as an administrator, but that also prompts me to allow the program to run every time I start the game. Is there any other options where the UAC can be forced to allow a program to run or are there other permissions I can try? Thanks again, Leviathan. |
