| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Zidnea, It depends on what type of Vista installation DVD you have. Retail Full version: Clean Install with a Full Version of Vista Retail Upgrade version: Clean Install From Upgrade Vista OEM (store bought) Recovery Partition: (No DVD) You will need to check you computer's documentations for the exact procedure, but you usually press something like F10 or F11 during bootup to boot into the Recovery Manager screen to select something like the Restore to factory default option. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hi Shawn, At last here's an app that lets you create exceptions for the UAC prompt - without turning anything else off. I am using it on x64 no problems . It replaces the UAC prompt - a similar looking widow pops up and you can allow or cancel , but if you tick the "Don't ask me again" box and then the Allow box - that app. will run in future with no prompts. Two points: First uncheck the allow submissions box that appears during install process - to stop info. being sent back to Norton. Second, once I have done the Always allow , I haven't yet found a way to reverse that without uninstalling the app. It's free from Norton 32bit and 64 bit available User Account Control Management - Vista UAC | Norton Labs Your view on this would be appreciated as always Thanks again SIW2 |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hi SIW2, I'm a bit nervous about installing anything Norton with all of the trouble they had with their AV program and Vista at first. There may be a registry entry that holds the exception information. You may have to search using Norton in the registry to see if it is for that program. I'll be surprised if it doesn't have some way to remove a program from it's exception list. I will have to give it a try later tonight to see if what I can find and how well it runs. ![]() Thank you for mentioning this program. Shawn |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hi Shawn, Know what you mean - that's why I wanted to use it bit before bringing it up - works as advertised so far .Uninstalled and reinstalled it without a hitch. Had a quick look with Nir Sofer's Regscanner - doesn't seem to list the allowed apps in any easily identifiable way. Still, I know which I want to allow , so it's not a prob, and uninstalling the uac manager returned everything to previous state. ![]() Look forward to hearing your experiences SIW2 |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level SIW2, It's a nice little program. I used Process Monitor with it to track down where it installs everything, but no luck either with understanding what is the exception list. It seems to work perfectly fine for me to. I understand that it is just a beta right now, but it would be nice if they added some form of user interface to allow the user to add and remove exceptions manually. Perhaps by way of a tray icon. So far, I say it looks very promising and is perfectly functional now. ![]() To bad it probably will not end up as a free program when the final version is released. |

| vista home premium x32 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Okay I'm just about rdy to switch to my new computer and install vista home premium on it. With XP I created a single account and it has Administrative rights, didn't do a password and everything went just fine. Will I need to do things diffrently with Vista on a clean install? UAC sounds like a bit of a pain in general since other than my room mates access to a shared folder no one but me uses my system & I like to have complete control including viewing hidden and system folders. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hi Bratboy1, UAC can be a pain at first until you have everything setup and installed. After that it's not to bad. With Vista your administrator accounts acts just like a Standard account except that UAC will then ask you to approve anything that wants to run with administrator rights first. In a Standard account, you must also provide the administrator's password to approve UAC. Hope this helps, Shawn |
