| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hello Ripbox, Are you doing this from within an administrator account? If you are, then from what I have read on this error, it may be caused by a startup program interfering with this from a potential Virus or malware. You might temporarily disable all of your startup programs and restart the computer as a test to see. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| vista home premium 32-bit SP1 | Re: User Account Control - Require Password What I'd like to know is how to UNDO this particular change. I have Vista Home Premium 32-bit and I used one of those "tweaker" applications to turn on the password when the elevation prompt dialog appears. Now that same tweaker doesn't work to disable the password and return to the simple "click to continue" model. Never mind that I'm an idiot for using one of those tweakers - the problem is that secpol.msc does not exist on this machine so far as I can tell and I don't know how else to disable the password check. Is there a registry key somewhere that can be edited or some other way to return to the default elevation prompt behavior? |

| vista home premium 64bit | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level I had UAC turned off, but thought I'd give your "elevate privilege level" a try to avoid the " UAC is turned off " notification. Now I have security shields on some icons, and with SpywareBlaster for example, it tells me I do not have the privileges to Immunize, when I update, and if I click OK, it then goes ahead and immunizes anyway. Is that how it should be? Security centre tells me UAC is turned off too. Couple of hours later: Just restarted and security icons are now gone. A bit confusing, but I guess a longer trial will make the effect of these changes clearer. Last edited by seasalt; 12-21-2008 at 03:36 AM.. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level Hello Seasalt, and welcome to Vista Forums. Yeah, any time you change the UAC permission level you will need to restart the computer afterwards to apply the change as per the second to last step in the tutorial. ![]() Shawn |
