| Vista Home Premiun 32 bit | Re: Speed Up the Performance of Vista First off great web site, It has the best info and help bar none. Now my question. I've been trying to update my laptop as per your Speed Up the Performance of Vista page, I went to device manager clicked check for updated drivers for the important stuff and it said all was up to date. But when I went back to the control panel and found the graphics folder and it had a link to update the driver which I did. So now how do I know if windows is lying to me as far as the drivers for everything else, mother board, chip set etc. any help would be great. thanks |

This does not mean that the driver installed for the device is up to date or not. Device Manager will not automatically update the device drivers for you. The Update Driver button in the device'e properties Driver tab is if you wanted to manually update the device's driver instead of using the driver installation file. Which is not recommened unless you have no other choice. Sometimes you will get lucky and can update some of your device drivers automatically through Windows Updates, but not always. In this case it would be up to you to check the device manufacturer's website for newer driver releases to download and install. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Speed Up the Performance of Vista I do not know if Intel is the manufacturer of your motherboard or not, but it's best to go to your motherboard manufacturer's website to get the chipset drivers, but that is different subject for another post since it is going off topic here. |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Re: Speed Up the Performance of Vista @Brink, I think Disable Network Printer Search is an XP only tweak. It's not on either of my Vista systems and I see some mention on other boards that the setting has been removed. Also search of MS KB only gets a hit for XP. |
