| Vista Ultimate x64 | Hi, great guide ^^ I didn't really reap that many rewards but still. However, I ran into a problem. After changing *something*, my picture quality while watching movies etc have dramatically dropped. I use VLC & nowadays, it sort of looks like when games have AA turned off. It's really distracting from the distance I'm usually viewing my screen I've tried turning everything back on but it hasn't helped (I can't seem to get Aero back though even if I change it in regedit). I even tried updating my graphics drivers & updated my VLC version to the latest to no avail. Any ideas on what I turned off that I shouldn't have? It's not like I went crazy & turned off half of services.msc xD I'm on vista x64 ofc (?).Basically, the picture was crystal clear & smooth before & now it's pixellated (not all over the screen though, thank god). It reminds me of bad jpeg compression, you know? It doesn't seem to affect anything but video playback. And it doesn't matter what kind of video content it is (though I haven't thought about on youtube etc) so it's not just that I've been watching something poorly compressed or anything. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Hello Minamu, and welcome to Vista Forums. It's hard to say what may have caused it or not, but you might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before you made the changes may be able to fix this for you. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Thanks for the help. For some reason, I removed my previous restore points when I did my settings changes so I've pretty much shot myself in the foot haha. Oh well. A reformat or upgrading to Win 7 is coming up for me anyway. That should fix it. It's kinda strange though. I'm pretty sure I haven't been modifying any related to graphics besides the menu where you change Aero colors and special effects. But I did find out how to get Aero back. I had this program called "Ultimate windows Tweaker 2.0" where I had disabled Aero. Had forgotten about that Perhaps it'll fix itself with a reboot, that I haven't done yet. Thanks anyway! |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Speed Up the Performance of Vista I have a question about the impact of "Pin to Start Menu" vs "Quick Launch Toolbar" on Vista performance. Should I have my favourite programs on the Quick Launch Toolbard or Pin to Start Menu? There are 4 or 5 I keep using over and over, and had them on the Quick Launch, and have just recently decided to try Pin to Start Menu. Is one better than the other to reduce the time it takes for Vista to load my desktop? Thanks, --e. |

It will make no difference in the performance or startup time of Vista for where you place the shortcuts. It's only a matter of your personal preference and which location would be easier for you to access them at. ![]() Hope this helps, Shawn |
