| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations Fred, I'm glad to hear that you resolved your problem. I have not heard of Firefox giving Vista problems like this before, but you should still be able to use Firefox. I just wouldn't make it your default browser since it gave you a problem. Shawn |

| Vista Ultimate 32bit | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations Anyone have any problems with Vista resetting your default programs? It keeps changing my default browser back to Internet Explorer (even though I rarely use it) and my default mail program to Windows Mail (and I've never even opened this ONCE). I have Firefox set as my default browser and Thunderbird set as my mail. Vista also likes to forget my file extension preferences (I want .nfo opened by Notepad, not the System Information tool). Any ideas? I know the last one is a separate topic, but maybe figuring out why the first one is happening will fix the second problem. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations Hi imeltcrayons, Welcome to Vista x64 Forums. ![]() See if turning off the option to check to see if IE7 is the default program will help stop it from defaulting back to these. For IE7: 1. Click on Tools, then Internet Options. 2. Click on the Programs tab. 3. Uncheck Tell me if IE is not the default web browser. 4. Click OK. Check in Firefox and in Thunderbird for a similar option, but have them check to make that they are the default program. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Ultimate 32bit | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations Brink, thanks for the welcome. ![]() And thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that was the very first option I changed when I first opened IE. I go days at a time without even using IE, and then one time when I go to open Firefox I get a warning saying FF isn't currently set as my default browser and asks if I want to change it. And I've never even opened Windows Mail, EVER, so I'm not sure how that keeps resetting itself. It's not really a massive problem, it's just one of those really annoying quirks that will bug me forever until it gets fixed, y'know? Thanks for any help anyone can provide. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations imeltcrayons, I'm not sure what is causing it to revert back as the default program. The only other thing I can think of is maybe a Windows Update that reset the default settings. ?? Shawn |

| vista business 32 bit | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations Hello I am very non-tech. I recently purchased two new computers, both with windows vista business 32 bit and upgraded to Money Plus Premium. I am unable to print portfolio manager, etc. I have spoken to Money support and they have little understanding of Vista. The error message I receive is: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." Per the tutorial, I should find Money Plus at Control Panel/Default Programs/Set Default Programs BUT it is not there. HELP!! Thanks |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations Hi Vaesq, When you click on the file, does it open into Money Plus automatically? If not, try using Open With and selecting Money Plus. You may need to browse to the exe file of Money Plus. You can also set the file extension manually to the EXE file of Money Plus instead. This tutorial will show you how. Default Programs Hope this helps, Shawn |

| vista business 32 bit | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations Shawn, Thanks for the prompt response. My Money Plus software seems to work fine. It opens normally. I only get the error message when I attempt to print using File, Print etc. which is how I print a copy of the Portfolio Manager. I really hate to seem so stupid, but I don't understand what file extension I am to associate with what. The money file extension is, I believe, .mny (unless the upgrade has changed it and I don't know how to see file extensions in Vista). So the money file seems to work OK, it is just that I can't print from the money file. Does this make sense? Thanks for your help. Vhesq1 |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations Vaesq1, If when you click on the money file it opens Money Plus, then you should not need to change any associations. I found this that you might try: You receive the "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action" error message when you try to print a portfolio report in Portfolio Manager in Money 2005 Here is the Money Solution Center link that may help also: Money Solution Center Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: Default Programs - Program Default Associations I have 2 email accounts, mine and my wife's. Both have log on/off provisions. I received an email with an attachment after installing the computer (I bought the computer in Aug 2008, a HP Pavilion a6567c PC). When I tried to open the att, I was given the choice of using the web service to find the correct program or to choose from a list of installed programs. I opted for the web service and the program selected was works word processor. This worked fine for opening the att plus a number of others I had previously saved in my documents on my old computer. The email was also sent to my wife's email where the att would not open. It did not give the choice of the web service searching for the apppropriate program but rather said the file was unknown and that it was unable to open the att. I then resent the email to my email account where the att opened on cue. Works word processor is on the list of programs which are installed on the new computer. I am at a loss as to how to proceed. If you can help out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You Bill Weaver |
