| Administrator | Re: Index - Windows Search Service Ok Tyler, I noticed that these are all hidden files that are grayed out. I experienced the same thing you did when I tested this, but if you uncheck C:\Users, it will uncheck the grayed out C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local one to. You will just have to check the ones you want again. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Newbie | Re: Index - Windows Search Service Where to start... Great tutorial, but I can't even get past step 1. I search for "services" and it finds it, I click it and nothing happens. I have also tried clicking Enter. So I tried anyway, skipped that step and went ahead. Sure enough everything works a charm until I get to the part where I am to put the .txts into the Config folder (which by the way already has the two .txts there, same size as the ones I am supposed to put there and everything). But when I try to overwrite them it says I can't since they are currently in use. Surely because I skipped step 1. Hell, I'm not even sure this is the error I am having, but it's related to the Windows Search Indexer. The error message doesn't look like the one you showed, but that could be because I am running a swedish version of Vista. I get the error when I move or delete a file, etc. I'll just post the error-information if that's of any help, despite being in swedish. Problemhändelsens namn: APPCRASH Programnamn: SearchIndexer.exe Programversion: 6.0.6001.18000 Programtidsstämpel: 47919483 Namn på felmodul: ntdll.dll Modulens version: 6.0.6001.18000 Tidsstämpel för felmodul: 4791a7a6 Undantagskod: c0000005 Undantagsförskjutning: 000659c3 OS-version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Språkvariant-ID: 1053 I run 32bit Swedish Home Premium Vista. |

| Administrator | Re: Index - Windows Search Service Hi Simon, Welcome to Vista Forums. ![]() See if you can replace the TXT files while you are booted into Safe Mode. They should not be in use there. This tutorial will show you how to boot to Safe Mode if needed. Safe Mode Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Newbie | Re: Index - Windows Search Service Alright, I booted in minimal safe mode, went to the folder you specificed for 32bit, copied the two .txts you specified and tried to overwrite the ones in the Config folder, and Windows still tells me they are being used "in another program" or whatever, and thus can't be replaced. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, either. I chose to boot in safemode through going into the msconfig and selecting boot-type, so to speak. Safe Mode and minimal. And when I reboot the PC it says I am in safe mode, resolution's smaller, etc etc. I am starting to consider a full-on reinstall of Vista, but it's such a pain whatwith all the drivers and programs to reinstall. |
