| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Index - Windows Search Service Simon, You might try doing one of these before having to do a clean reinstall to see if they can fix the problems for you. 1. System Restore using a restore point dated before the problem. System Restore - How to or 2. Repair (upgrade) install. Repair Install For Vista Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista home premium 32bit (Swedish) | Re: Index - Windows Search Service Right, I'd have to uninstall SP1 and all. I'm not sure what's the best, guess I could use a clean reinstall to start anew anyway. Probably a dumb question, but would the errors disappear if I just disabled search indexing? Since this whole search indexing thing is only related to searching and I never use the search feature, I would be more or less unaffected if I disabled the indexing, correct? Because as it is now, removing or moving any file, no matter how small, takes several seconds and brings up the transfer window telling you time left and so on. Basically I don't care about searching for files. Would completely disabling search indexing stop the errors from coming? And if yes, I'd really appreciate help on how I should go about doing that. Thanks for your help so far. |

| Vista home premium 32bit (Swedish) | Re: Index - Windows Search Service Yeah well I managed to disable the search indexer. At first I disabled it for C: only, but that didn't help, so I googled another tutorial which told me to write services.msc in the searchbar, as opposed to only services (which I had tried writing oh so many times, but to no avail). When I added .msc I finally got into the service-manager, or whatever it's called. From here I disabled search indexing, but when I continued on the next step of the guide (going to control panel->indexing options) I got stumped again, since everything was greyed out in indexing options. But no matter. I'll just keep it disabled as it is now. Anyway, thanks for trying, Brink. I really appreciate it. |
