| Vista Basic 32bit | Re: Disk Management - Shrink Partition HI, This seems like the perfect place to ask this I have a dell laptop with the following partitions 63MB (hidden EISA config) D:// Recovery C:// OS Vista 2.5GB primary i guess media direct? see screenshot below I want to set up a dual boot scenario without loosing anything on my c drive. My question is can I use the built in disk management to shrink the C drive or do I have to get another 3rd party software like Acronis? (i dont want to loose anything on c). Also I have 4 partitions so how do I go about this, what is the best to delete/resize etc? Trying to prepare for Windows 7 when it gets released, Thanks. |

| vista home basic 64bit & vista home basic 32bit. I use 64bit for FSX. | Re: Disk Management - Shrink Partition My problem is not that I want to shrink or make a partition. When I bought the hard ware for my home built computer, a friend of mine installed vista home basic 64bit on a partitioned drive. He only gave me 29 gigs for the os (c drive). A "d" drive was made for my gaming drive I'm running out of disk space on c drive. I currently show less than 2 gigs left. What I'm hoping for is can space be added back onto c drive from the d drive without loseing anything? If not, I start all over again. Thanks for reading this |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Disk Management - Shrink Partition Hello Cuff, You will need to use a 3rd party disk management program like the free Easeus Partition Master Home Edition to be able to this without losing anything. Hope this helps, Shawn |

After doing some more checking within this site, I've seen a few programs that will allow me to do this. Thank you Ernest |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Disk Management - Shrink Partition Hi Shawn! First of all thanks for the graeat and to-the-point tutorial. Following the steps I successfully managed to shrink my C:// partition and create a new one - D:// I even transferred some data to it and it worked just fine. I switched of the computer over night and on the next day the newly created partition was gone. It can be found in the Disk manager as a primary partition, but when I right click no options are available - it just prompts to open the Help and suppport centre. Should I use a third party application to recover my data or is there any way to restore the partition. Thanks in advance. Phil |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Disk Management - Shrink Partition Hello Phil, and welcome to Vista Forums. Could you post a screenshot of your Disk Management so we are sure of what the layout is? You might also see if a simple restart of the computer may redetect the partition and have it available again. |
