Re: Notification Icons - Reset

Hello Brink,

Yes, you're right. I don't know how my post ended up in this thread. Can you have it moved? In any case, I made the changes by downloading the software and I have not had the power, networking, or volume icons disappear in several weeks.

Best regards,

JMT

Re: Notification Icons - Reset

Well, actually, I just wanted to report that the problem DID reappear once last week. The only way to have gotten back the network icon was the restart (I tried putting the computer to sleep and awaking it, and that didn't work).

Let me know if there are any other solutions available.

Regards,

JMT

Re: Notification Icons - Reset

Hello JMT,

It would not hurt to try and see if it can help, but you might also check the services in METHOD TWO (step 7) to see if the are set to Started and Automatic. If you have a newer network adapter driver available, it should be installed since it may address this issue as well. I have also heard of some security programs that may interfere with it, so you might temporarily disable it as a test when the Network icon disappears to see if that may be the cause.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

Re: Notification Icons - Reset

The first step should be to disable explorer.exe. that is probably why the steps did not work.

Re: Notification Icons - Reset

Hi PhilBill,

As long as you have started regedit first in METHOD TWO to have access to it before killing explorer.exe it wouldn't matter as long as it was done before restarting the computer or logging off and on. Either way will work though.

Re: Notification Icons - Reset

Just want to say thank you. A Dell Technician tried to fix this and messed up my user account. This reset worked perfectly!!
