Re: Backup Complete Computer

Hello Nelly,

It would be better to scan first before backing up to help make sure it's a good clean backup, but not necessary though.

Re: Backup Complete Computer

Thanks for the quick reply Brink. I thought it would be wise.
I hope you don't mind a quick new question that is off topic.
I have a Freecom external drive advertised aS 160gb but only has 149gb space.
Is this usual ?

Re: Backup Complete Computer

Hi Nelly,

If I may interject, it is perfectly normal. It has to do with decimal gigabytes vs binary gigabytes (which a computer sees it as) and the ratio between the two.

decimal gigabyte=1,000,000,000 bytes
binary gigabyte= 1,073,741,824 bytes
ratio=0.9313225

160 gb x 0.9313225= 149.0116 gb

Re: Backup Complete Computer

Thanks Airbot

Disappointed and angry feelings of having been ripped off have abated.
Just noticed my others drives are the same 80gb is actually 74.5gb, 200gb is actually 186gb.

Always like to get something "techy" for Christmas and a drive is all the budget would allow.

Apologies again for going "off topic and off Vista".

Exchanged my external drive for 320 gigger (kudos to Amazon)
I've performed the Windows Complete PC Backup and just as this tutorial said it worked flawlessly.
Has it also backed up media files eg movies etc ?

Re: Backup Complete Computer

Hi Nelly,

A Complete PC Backup is basically a clone of your entire hard drive. Everything is included, and when restored everything will be restored exactly as is was when the backup was made.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Just to be sure - When you say entire hard drive, I assume that means all partitions as well? Like most people, I have partitions on the drive and wouldn't want the other partitions touched, just the OS partition should I need to do a restore. Is this possible with Complete PC Backup? Can I just restore a partition?

Thanks

Re: Backup Complete Computer

Hi Sygnus,

Sorry, it is the entire C: drive or partion that Vista is on that is backed up. You can then use the complete PC backup to restore it on any size drive or partition.
