| | Deleting Network Printers Hello Everyone, I've used a script to map a network printer from an old print server called Server1 (ie. \\server1\printer) onto the XP workstation. I've recently created a new print server (Server2) and mapped the network printer (ie. \\server2\printer) onto the same XP workstation. When I attempt to remove the old print driver from Server1 using a script the command fails because Server1 is no longer active on the network. Is there a way to force the network printer connection to be deleted? I've tried the following commands: rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /dn /n\\server1\printer removeprinterconnection in a VBS script with the force delete option It seems none of the aforementioned commands want to work because they are unable to communicate with the old print server. I appreciate any suggestions to resolve this issue. Thank you, D |

| | Re: Deleting Network Printers Derek, I think this is a known problem, but I can't replicate it at the moment - I did the test from Vistax64 connecting to a printer on a client PC which I then shut down, and the removal worked quietly. I'll try a test from XP to a server later, but could you check the following points? (1) Any idea who created the printer mapping initially, and what their privileges were? I believe that if a privileged user created the mapping and you are trying to remove the printer as a normal user, you'll encounter problems. It's also possibly due to a printer policy, although I'm rusty on the details of what we would see. (2) What exact error message(s) do you get, if any, when attempting to remove the printer from the WSH script? Include the error numeric if you can. Those answers should help rule out some specific problem possibilities.
