Vista - scriptable mp3 control

Does anyone know of a free scriptable mp3 control? I am tired of all of the
mp3 players that have a ton of features that I don't want and not all of the
features I do. I am going to do my own interface but I would like to build
it using a basic mp3 control which lets me play/pause/stop etc. It should be
able to return a status saying either that the file is still playing
(ideally how much of the file has been played or how much remains). I know
that Windows Media Player is scriptable but the effort involved in actually
doing this is horrendous.
