Beware

I seem to remember at least one post in here mentioned CONVERT2EXE

For your information, McAfee has just told me that it contains a Trojan
and has bounced it into Quaranteen !!

Just thought it might be of interest to some-one in here.

I downloaded and installed it during the last month as a result of
seeing it mentioned in here !!

Best regards
Pete (Northolt UK)

Re: Beware

I don't know anything about Convert2EXE.
It looks like it's actually some kind of simple
interpreter/compiler rather than a script
file compiler -- if the webpage is to be
believed.

In any case, I wouldn't worry too much about
what McAffee says if others have found the
tool to be OK. Anti-virus programs are very dumb.
It's been a long time since the day when 1MB of
virus definitions was dependable protection for
several months. Now AV programs are updating
every few hours, while the active exploits are often
"zero day exploits" that don't have an AV definition
yet. So AV is more for reassunance than anything.
They'll often flag a file just for being a .vbs or .hta.
There's a great example of the problem here:
