Virtual Machine 2007 on Host- Vista Home Premium

Hi

When I attempt to install Virtual PC 2007 on Vista Home Premium, I am
prompted with the following error message:

You are not running on a supported operating system. Please see Microsoft
Virtual PC help for a list of supported host operating systems.

When I click on OK, I am displayed the License Agreement and I think I
would be able to proceed with the installation.

Checked Microsoft website
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow...pc/sysreq.mspx
Home Premium is not listed.

What do you think? Should I still try to install? or do we have known
issues?

Re: Virtual Machine 2007 on Host- Vista Home Premium

You can go ahead and install it, it works fine. That message only
states that it's not supported, not that it wont run.

All that means is that Microsoft wont do product support if you have a
problem.

Re: Virtual Machine 2007 on Host- Vista Home Premium

Thanks Bob!

I installed VPC2007 and it installed fine.

I attempted to install the LiveCD from Remote Exploit, however it the boot
procedure just hung.
On the other hand, the same LiveCD works just fine on VMWare.

I was wondering if any one has had any success in installing in non MS OS on
VPC 2007?

Re: Virtual Machine 2007 on Host- Vista Home Premium

I've installed Linux (a few different distributions) and OS/2 in a VM,
I don't know about Remote Exploit.

Re: Virtual Machine 2007 on Host- Vista Home Premium

One of the gotcha's is 24-bit color, that's the default for Linux
usually, and VPC doesn't support it -- you need to set it to 16 or
32-bit color.

Another is the 2.6 kernel having a problem with PS2 mice, that VPC
emulates, not working. I don't have the workaround, but there is one
if you do a search.

I've got OS/2 Warp 3 and stand-alone Oberon running in VMs.

Re: Virtual Machine 2007 on Host- Vista Home Premium

Bob, this is probably long answered, but there is a "VM Additions for
Linux" .iso available that is supposed to address several problems. I
know that it addresses the mouse/pointer problem. I can't find the
read.me on it though I had it last week............

Re: Virtual Machine 2007 on Host- Vista Home Premium

You're probably thinking of the ones for Virtual Server 2005 R2. You may
want to read how that is implemented.

See:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
and the Readme file in particular.
