Trouble w/ VPC-2K7 & Networking

Host = Vista Ultimate
VPC = Virtual PC 2007

Guest#1 = NIC (Local Only)
Win2K8 (AD, DHCP, DNS) w/Static IP
Scope is configured, Active, & Authorized
Can ping self, ok - Working fine

Guest#2 = NIC (Local Only)
Win2K8 (Core) w/DHCP
Cannot get IP from DHCP Server (Guest#1)
Upon boot, VPC is getting an AutoConfig Address 169.........

I cannot get Guest#2 to pickup an IP from Guest#1
Both VPC's set to Local Only; they do not need internet access
I have checked for identical MAC's - No, they are differant

From my understanding - Local Only's should be able to communicate
This is not the case in my situation; however, I have had two VPC's
communicating before using Local Only on this Host. However, at one point in
time I uninstall VPC 2007, along with other test VPC's - Now I have
reinstalled it, to help with studying for the 70-643 and others.

Any suggestions greatful
Randy

That should work, but I have heard of quite a few problems with DHCP in
virtual networks.

I would manually configure the core machine and see if there is a major
networking problem or whether it is simply DHCP. The simplest way to do that
in server core is with a netsh command.

netsh interface ipv4 set address name="NICID" source=static
address=IPaddress mask=Netmask gateway=DefaultGateway

Then set the DNS value with

netsh interface ipv4 add dnsserver name="NICID" address=DNSAddress index=1
