Cant install windows operating system on virtual pc

I have the virtual pc up and running.

I drag the file IE6-XPSP2_VPC.EXE onto the cd icon at the bottom of the
virtual pc window.

With virtual window as the active window I hit enter.

The virtual pc window displays

"client mac addr: 00 03 etc GUID: 1DE etc
DHCP ... / " <-- rotating thingy. With the dots expanding for about 3 or 4
minutes.

Then it says

"reboot and select proper boot device
or insert Boot Media in selected Boot device"

Any ideas.
Thanks

Yes. You will use the CD-Rom for installation of an OS, for example.

This one is pre-buit.

~~~~
# IE6-XPSP2_VPC.exe contains a Windows XP SP2 with IE6 VHD file
# IE7-XPSP2_VPC.exe contains a Windows XP SP2 with IE7 VHD file
# IE8B1-XPSP2_VPC.exe contains a Windows XP SP2 with IE8 Beta 1 VHD file
# IE7-VIS1.exe+IE7-VIS2.rar+IE7-VIS3.rar contain a Vista Image with IE7 VHD
file.
~~~~

Execute it on the host machine.

Create a new virtual machine for XP.

Use the .vhd that was just birthed from the .exe.

No SP3 from it's maker!

Interesting note. These appear to have been posted a week ago and will
expire in about eight weeks. None of the three choices for XP are shown to
have SP3 on them. And this is from Microsoft...............

Look at the end of the file name. It is an exe file, not an .iso. The exe
file expands the .vhd file which you then use as the virtual hard drive in a
vm which you create with the New Virtual Machine wizard. Like the
intructions on the Download Details page says,
"Instructions: Once you have completed the download, double-click file to
expand the VHD file. Start Virtual PC and create a new VPC, and point to the
files you just expanded."

Please read the instructions on all download details pages.

That file is not bootable. You need to run it.
