| | SLED 10 Under VPC 2007 under XP Pro - 2nd Post Has anyone experimented with the subject combination? Quote: >If so, were you able to access the XP hard drive(s) from within SLED? >Within SLED 10 were you able to R/W to a flash drive. Quote: >TIA I haven't, but you could only access your host hard drive via a SAMBA network share. There are no Shared Folders options for Linux. Same goes with a flash drive. THere is no USB support in VPC, so you'd have to share out your flash drive via standard Windows networking and access it that way. |

VPC's shared folders are only via the VM Additions for Windows. For information on what works in VPC: http://vpc.visualwin.com There are quite a few SuSe Linux entries. If you have SLED10, why not just try and install it? -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ I do not work for Microsoft. |

| | Re: SLED 10 Under VPC 2007 under XP Pro - 2nd Post I already have SLED10 installed and operating under VP 2007 and it runs as expected. But no intenet access, no USB drive access, and no XP NTFS HD access. As I understand, installation of SAMBA should allow SUSE to R/W to the last two ? If you haven't done it, and I haven't done it, I wonder why others haven't done it ? Just some questions. This will depend on the external network configuration. For example if you have a router that supplies DHCP service to hand out IP addresses like the typical ADSL home network, then it will work fine provieded that: - You set the guest network properties in VPC2007 to use the host NIC - Configure the guest to use DHCP to get its IP address USB is not supported at all in VPC2007 so you will never *directly* be able to access a USB drive from the guest no matter what kind of operating system you use on the guest. The *only* way to access the XP host drives (including any USB drive mounted on the host) is to share those drives on the network from the host and then connect to them from the guest via the network, precisely in the same way you would do this if the guest was installed on a different PC hardware on the network. This I believe includes installing and configuring SAMBA on the guest. Quote: >As I understand, installation of SAMBA should allow SUSE to R/W to the last >two ? provided it is correctly configred. |

| | Re: SLED 10 Under VPC 2007 under XP Pro - 2nd Post So SAMBA supplies the virtual network functionality? It certainly wouldn't be a physical network in my case since there is only one laptop and one processor. So SAMBA must talk to the VPC which uses XP to provide HD data back to the VPC and then back to SLED ? And all this needs to happen on one laptop. With respect to wireless internet connectivity, I might be working in a library or an airport or Starbucks. I suspect that I could have two web browsers active - IE in XP and another in SLED and toggle from one to the other via the right alt and mouse movement ? You need an active NIC for host-guest communication. If your NIC isn't connected to something it's not active. Also, your VM needs to get its TCP/IP information from somewhere. Take a look at the VPC help for info on the loopback. Quote: > >With respect to wireless internet connectivity, I might be working in a >library or an airport or Starbucks.
