Re: network path not found

It's not a good idea to join the host to a domain in VPC because when
you reboot the machine, the domain master wont be running, so you
can't log in properly.

It would be better to have a an XP VM to log into the domain instead.

As for the communications, that's hard to debug -- how do you have the
networking set up for the VM?

Re: network path not found

That's the problem, you can't use NAT for logging in to a domain
unless you set up some stuff very specially. Unfortunately I cannot
find out just what to do, but maybe someone here will know. (Bill
Grant?)

NAT is a critical piece of the puzzle...

That won't work. Shared networking (NAT) does not allow host<-->guest
communication.
From VPC help: "A virtual machine configured to use Shared Networking
acts like a computer behind a Network Address Translation (NAT)
router. Shared networking does not support inbound port mapping.
External computers are unable to access a server running in the
virtual machine or any ports on the virtual machine. Shared networking
also does not support networking between virtual machines or from the
host operating system to the virtual machine."

You will need to specify the host NIC in the options or install and
use the MS Loopback adapter.

Just because you can create a server in a vm and promote it to be a DC
doesn't mean that it is a good idea! There are a number of things which you
can and can't do with a domain controller in a vm. (As Bob said, joining the
host to the domain is one of them)!

See my post in the thread "Can't join Virtual Vista to a Virtual 2008
Domain Server" from Golden Z .
