Re: MS Virtual PC 2007 SP1 install "Saved State" question

Regarding this same question of "saved state"

I first downloaded the Virtual PC and did not open it or run it, and so I am
sure it is "not running." However, my question is regarding the download of
the SP1.

Did this SP1 download replace the original version? Or do I just proceed
with installing the SP1 even though I have not opened the first Virtual PC (
It is installed, but has not been opened or run )

Exactly, it replaces the original version if you had installed it, and
installs fresh if the original version isn't there.

VPC does not run as a service. It is an application. If you have not run
it then it is not running.

You have to deliberately close a virtual machine in Saved State. It is very
like hibernating a computer. Just closing a virtual machine that uses undo
disks by choosing to save the session changes to the .vhd is not using Saved
State. You can look in a virtual machine's folder and see if there is a
Saved State file in addition to the .vmc and .vhd files. A saved state file
uses the .vsv extension.

Saved state does not refer to VPC. VPC is the application program which
allows you to create and run virtual machines.

After you have created and run a virtual machine, you have an option to
save state rather than shutdown the virtual machine. This is similar to
hibernating a physical machine. When you restart the vm it is in the same
condition as when you did the save state - it is not a reboot.

If you have virtual machines created you should shut them down before you
upgrade VPC. Machines in a saved state may not restart properly if VPC is
upgraded while they are in a saved state.
