Can't start a 486 game

Hello,
I've got a little DOS game poker. Seems that I can't start it and cannot
see the splash screen.
No screen, "sizzling salami (not well described )"/hissing sound then
hangs
Just some poker game..... ha ha you know the rest.
Thanks
Jack

You could provide even a slight tidbit of useful information such as the
host OS, guest OS, etc.
And no, ha ha, I DON'T know the rest.

Unfortunately we don't...

If you actually want any help, you could start off by providing:

1) the host OS
2) the host RAM
3) the host CPU
4) the guest OS
5) the guest RAM
6) whether you've installed the Additions or not
7) the name of the app which isn't working
8) a sensible description of the problem

Re: Can't start a 486 game

Sorry these are the supplements.
Guest: DOS
Guest Ram: 16MB
Host: XP SP2
Host Ram: 2.0GB DDR400
CPU: P4 2.6GHz
Have additions
VPC 2007, no sp1
Name of the game: poker

When I start the game, there is no screen at all. Just some hissing sound
and everything comes to a complete stop. I am not sure if the hardware is
too fast for the game.
When I play it with DosBOX, it has no problems.
Does anyone know why there is no screen and the wield sound?
Thanks
Jack

Try dropping the RAM to 8meg -- though that should make no difference..

Do you have ANSI.SYS in CONFIG.SYS?

If not, put it in -- and that may make all the difference..

Start the game .exe from a batch file -- I know what will make a "hissing
sound" like that.
Check retcodes if you can.

What release DOS? 6.22?
