| | Error installing Windows XP on Virtual PC I just bought a Vista Business Sony Vaio laptop, and since not all my old software can run on Vista, I heard that the solution is to install Virtual PC running Windows XP. I managed to set up a virtual machine, but when I start it and inserted the Windows XP recovery CD that came with my laptop, I got an error message saying that the utility is not suitable for my laptop, and the virtual machine keeps re-booting over and over again. Is there another software I need for the set up? |

| | Re: Error installing Windows XP on Virtual PC You have to get a real copy of XP, that recovery disk is probably locked to the BIOS on that laptop and a Virtual Machine has it's own BIOS. It's probably against your EULA to run what you have in a VM, even if it would work. -- Bob Comer <Microsoft MVP Windows - Virtual Machine> On Sat, 2 Aug 2008 09:59:00 -0700, tongtongchan <tongtongchan@xxxxxx> wrote: Quote: >I just bought a Vista Business Sony Vaio laptop, and since not all my old >software can run on Vista, I heard that the solution is to install Virtual PC >running Windows XP. >I managed to set up a virtual machine, but when I start it and inserted the >Windows XP recovery CD that came with my laptop, I got an error message >saying that the utility is not suitable for my laptop, and the virtual >machine keeps re-booting over and over again. >Is there another software I need for the set up? |

| | Re: Error installing Windows XP on Virtual PC In laymen's term, does that mean the Virtual Machine is treated as a new PC, and I have to buy another copy of XP for it? | | Re: Error installing Windows XP on Virtual PC Hi, I also have a Vista machine and installed XP Pro inside Virtual PC. The answer is YES. Each operating system you install has to be fully licensed. Except for those free (open source) operating systems. My virtual XP machine behaves just like a normal XP PC, it needs updates, ETC.
