| | No sound in Vista? Host XP Pro Guest Vista Ultimate Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 There is no sound in the Vista VM. (Actually, there is no sound in the second Vista VM(Vista2), created from the same local .iso as the first Vista VM(Vista1) which does have sound.) I have the driver files from the first Vista VM where sound is working: VIRTUALAUDIO .sys drmk .sys portcls .sys Or so they are according to Device Manager of vista1 and I have copied them to the shared folder common to both machines. However, I do not have the install package. Vista went to the internet could not find the install package but said to reload VM Additions .iso. No joy there. Vista2 Device Manager does not have an entry for "Sounds, Video and Games". Vista1 does, which is how i tracked down the .sys files. FWIW, Vista2 Device Manager/Display Adapters has a single entry of "VM Additions S3 Trio 32/64". Vista2 was installed with hard disks 0 and 1. Vista1 was a single HD. Vista2 OS was installed on HD 0. Vista2 HD 0 is less than half full Vista2 HD 1 is empty except for housekeeping files (Recycle and System info) Problem re-statement: No sound capabilities in Vista Ultimate under Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. (referred to as vista2, above) FACE |

| | Re: No sound in Vista? Uninstall the additions and then reinstall them. Also make sure that the VM is defined as for Vista when you create the VM, that's the only way the Vista sound filter driver gets enabled. -- Bob Comer On Sun, 03 Aug 2008 14:19:32 -0400, FACE <AFaceInTheCrowd@xxxxxx> wrote: Quote: >Host XP Pro >Guest Vista Ultimate >Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 > >There is no sound in the Vista VM. > >(Actually, there is no sound in the second Vista VM(Vista2), created from >the same local .iso as the first Vista VM(Vista1) which does have sound.) > >I have the driver files from the first Vista VM where sound is working: > >VIRTUALAUDIO .sys >drmk .sys >portcls .sys > >Or so they are according to Device Manager of vista1 and I have copied >them to the shared folder common to both machines. I defined vista2 as "other" to bypass the memory allotment. That should be correctable and vm additions will be uninstalled in the interim and then resinstalled. I had installed the first one but ran out of room shortly. The first one will disappear soon. This one, vista2, has a twice-sized primary disk and a secondary disk to be used for program installation. I had created the first one as type "vista" in 'new machine' and then modified memory before I started it. Hopefully, that explains the difference between the two..... Thanks, FACE |
