| | 2GB of memory = 'unrecoverable processor error' I recently added 2GB of RAM to my host machine so I increased memory for VPC from 1 to 2.5 GB. However, this yields an "unrecoverable processor error" with Reset VPC button. That leads to an endless loop of restarts. Through trial and error, I was able to run VPC with 1999 MB but not 2000 MB. Is this the limit for VPC? -- AMD 64 X2 4200+ | 4GB RAM | XP SP2 host |VPC 2007 running WinME |

I've run VMs with 2GB+ of RAM, although not on an x86 OS. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ I do not work for Microsoft. |

| | RE: 2GB of memory = 'unrecoverable processor error' Thanks, Steve. Your response prompted me to check my memory. As it turns out, one of the 1GB modules was bad -- it had so many errors I had to stop the test! Moreover, it was one of the original modules. I can't believe I've been using my computer for nearly 6 months with bad memory! OCZ made good on their lifetime warranty and the new modules just arrived. However, I still can't increase VPC memory setting above 2GB without getting the "unrecoverable processor error". I'm going to test the new memory overnight but it seems highly unlikely the replacements would be bad. There must be another issue that's causing the problem. BTW, my host OS is XP Home, which I understand is not officially supported by MS, but it seems to be common knowledge that it works just fine. Could this explain my problem? |
