running Dos 6.2 inside Virtual PC

I set up VPC (6.0.192.0) and linked my virtual disk via the import
wizard and it imported the disk, but I dose not find the system.

I 'sys'ed a floppy disk and copied Sys.com to it. When I start the
vpc it won't find the system on the vir disk, but If I have the floppy
with the system in the floppy drive it will find it and boot
successfully. I can use the vpc and run the programs that it had on
it.

Now I should be able to Sys the C: drive and it states "system
transferred successfully"
But when I restart the vpc it fails to find any OS.

How can I get the sys back on the virt drive ?

Thanks

Re: running Dos 6.2 inside Virtual PC

Did you FDISK (partition the disk) and FORMAT the C: drive?

Run FDISK and make sure that the partition is set to be active.

Ran 'Fdisk' and selected option '2. Set active partition'

It shows only one partition and at the bottom it reads:
"The only startable partition on Drive 1 is already set active."

1) Reboot the VM

2) As soon as the boot process starts, hit the Delete key to enter the BIOS

3) Using the arrow keys, move the the Boot tab and hit Enter to enter the
Boot Device Priority tab

What do you see in priorities 1 to 4...?

It's a huge long shot, but I'm wondering whether somehow the virtual hard
disk is no longer configured as a bootable device in the virtual machine's
BIOS...

Got it to work !, Its not the bios, but that’s nice to know that a
virt bios is there.

I created a new VM and new VHD and then format /s to get a good format
and a system transfer the way that it wanted it. Then create a 2nd
temp VHD attach it to the original VM and Xcopy the whole drive to it.
Turn off that VM, attach the 2nd temp VHD to the new VM and start,
xcopy all that stuff back to the new VHD. Stop, start, boots
correctly ...

One question though, On the first xcopy from the original vhd created
by the disk wizard I got a couple of read failures, "could not read
from sector, fail, ignore, abort ... " I ignored twice and the copy
went on, and I noticed that the folder that was currently being copied
was probably not used any more. But why did that happen ? Shouldn't
the disk wizard checked all that stuff on the way in or did it just
perform a image copy ?

Thanks

Sid.

If you xcopy files you still need to run the SYS command on the drive
in order for it to boot. Copying boot files does not make an HD
bootable, only format /s or SYS C: will do that.
