Setting up email with AD

Hi - Now that I have my VM up and running with Active Directory installed, I
would like to create users with their own emails that can be sent back and
forth within this VM. In other words, I need a SharePoint development
environment and only want to use emails in the VM/AD domain. (I hope this
makes sense). For example, if my domain is dave.net, I want emails like
admin@xxxxxx, it@xxxxxx, sales@xxxxxx, etc. Then, I'd like to use
Outlook to retrieve these emails but I don't know how to configure the server
settings in Outlook.

Thank you,
dave

Could you be more specific about what OS you are running in the VM (i.e.
Windows Server 2008, 2003, SBS) and additionally have you installed
Exchange (installed by default if you are running SBS)?

That really has nothing to do with VPC. Once you install the OS in the vm
and promote it to a dc you are running a domain. The fact that it is runnng
in a vm has nothing to do with the way you configure your mail server.

So I guess I can't do what I need without it. Is that right?

thanks for your help Aaron

Hi.

You could do one of several things to set up your own mail server (either on
the current VM, on the host, or in another VM).
1) Download an Evaluation version of Exchange from MS
2) Install a version of Linux in another VM as a mail server and use
Sendmail and Configure the IMAP4 or POP3 Daemon(s)
or
3) Use Mercury32

http://www.pmail.com/m32_461.htm

IMHO Merc/32 is probably the easiest and simplest option. Mercury/32 is very
easy to set up/configure and run.

Re: Setting up email with AD

Thank you Aaron - if my VM rebuild doesn't work, I'll give this a try.
