| | Virtual Image Hi All experts, I've install virtual pc guest OS of WINXP, I would like to know the image location and file name of the guest OS. Also, how can I restore to the fresh installation of the guest OS while using for a long period. Thank you very much. |

(e.g. *.vmc, *.vhd). If you have forgotten where you created the virtual machine, select it in the VPC console, click the Settings button and then select the hard disk - that will tell you where it's installed... Also, how can I restore to the fresh >installation >of the guest OS while using for a long period. > Restore fresh: Unless you activated the undo disks when you created the guest and committed to the VHD after you were done installing XP there is no way to do that. The way you accomplish restoration is one of: 1. Enable Undo disks and when you close the guest select the "commit" option in the close dialogue when you have reached the point where you want to later return. After this do *not* commit anything to the VHD (you could actually make the VHD readonly as a safeguard). Instead select the "save" option. When you later want to go back to the old state just select "discard" option on the close dialogue and the undo disk contents will be flushed and you are back to the virgin state at the next guest start. 2. After you have completed the installation to your satisfaction, close the guest fully and then make a copy of the VHD file in another folder. When you want to return to this state later just copy back the saved copy (with the guest closed). In both cases you must prepare for later restore by either enabling Undo Disks and handling them properly or copy the VHD file to a backup location. -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |
