I got the same problem but I didn't want to reinstall my Red Hat Entreprise AS just to chane the display to 16 bits so this is how to do:

Resolution

Change the /etc/X11/XF86Config file to set the display color depth to 16 bits:

Steps

1- CTRL+ALT+F5: to switch to a terminal window (depends from Linux version (May be ALT+TABLESPACE or CTRL+ALT+F1)
2- Log in as root
3- vi /etc/X11/XF86Config
4- Change display to 16
