I have installed VPC 2007 on my Windows Vista and have installed XP on one Vp
session. It all works well but when I installed Additions, the resolution
changes to 800*600 along with 4-bit colour quality
Can someone please advise ASAP please?

I have the exact same problem cept both my original OS and the guest OS are
windows XP. It looked, and ran fine before I installed the additions package,
But after it, i can only do a 800x600 resolution and 4 bit color. Also, my
mouse movement is extremely sloppy and slow.

of the VM Additions, reboot, and reinstall them. It seems like your
Additions are messed up.

Hi Steve and Richard,
I have the same problem but it persists even after uninstalling-reinstalling
Additions. Am runing XP SP3 Host and XP SP1 Guest, and not doing anything
unusual, no other programs installed on the guest.
When I remove Additions, the resolution available goes up to 1024x768
(max), but when I add, or re-add, Additions, it drops back down to 800x600.
A pop-up baloon asks me if I want Windows to adjust my resolution, I
accept, but nothing ever changes.
My host resolution is 1280x1024 with an ATI Radeon X1650 video card; am
running with dual monitors, but I ran the same setup with VM 2004 and had no
problem.
I simply want to drag-drop files between machines, so I can evaluate
software.
Thanks,
Kevin

Has anyone figured this out? I am having the exact same problem with no luck.
If I can't implement file sharing ( i.e. with VM Additions ), the whole
Virtual Machine concept is kinda useless for me.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may need to try an older version of additions or install SP3 on
the VM, it could be they are not compatible with XP at the SP1 level.

I had the same problem and managed to fix it. Here's what worked for me:

Go into the settings for your VM, and under Hardware Virtualization, uncheck "Enable hardware-assisted virtualization". Reboot the VM.
With hardware-assist enabled, my VMs took a massive performance hit in addition to the weird display issue. Now that hardware-assist has been disabled, the display is fixed, and my VMs are nice and responsive again.

I had the same problem.....I was running XP as the guest, but it was SP1.
After I installed SP3 the problem went away.
Hope this helps

I had the same problem described above.
I was trying to run XP sp1 on a Vista Home Basic host, but after installing VIrtual PC additions, the resolution went too low and colors 4-bits. Tried to re-install the additions, but nothing changed.
The first solution (Go into the settings for your VM, and under Hardware Virtualization, uncheck "Enable hardware-assisted virtualization".) didinīt work. The option enable/disable was unavailable...
The solution was simply install sp2 on guest. After rebooting the system, resolution and colors were ok, and additions fully working.
Thanks a lot!![]()

software in various operating system versions to validate that it
works OK. So it is necessary to be able to have guests at for example
XP SP1 level to test properly.
If the screen resolution is screwed up by VMAdditions when the XP
guest is at SP1 level and it is fixed by installing SP2, then how in
the world is one supposed to test XP-SP1 software compatibilty?????
Of course one solution is to NOT install VMA, but that makes working
with the guest rather more tedious because of the mouse pointer
lock-in...
