Ping xp virtual machine from Vista Host

I have a laptop with Vista installed, and have installed VP 2007. I have
created a Virtual machine running XP Professional.

Ultimately, I wish to run some web based applications (Oracle) in the XP
virtual machine and access them from the host (vista) eg using IE.

However, i cannot even ping the xp virtual machine successfully at the
moment. Please can anyone advise or point me in the direction of a site
which gives guidance on networking between VM and host.

Thanks in advance

Make sure you're using the correct networking option for the VM, you
should set the NIC to the host's NIC for the VM.
Next, make sure that your firewalls allow communication, this is the
most common reason for no connectivity.

Steve,

Your comment on the firewall is good. People tend to forget. I spent hours just in trying to figure out why the network connectivity can not work from host to vpc.

Thanks,
Anthony

yeaa firewall biggest issue with vista , it blocks everything and there actual setting on allowing ICMP packets aswell , I have disabled pretty much everything and still unable to ping my virtual machine from vista host.

some say you can only do it if you bridge the virtual machine to an unused network adapter
