| | ANOTHER question about OS licensing My host machine is running xp pro, my virtual machine is running xp home. (Both legal copies, both registered) Am I allowed to use the virtual machine on more than one host machine? For example: Home, work, laptop. I have OEM versions of xp pro on all three computers (hosts) and I have built a VM using retail version of xp home. |

It may be possible to get around it by not running VPC at the same time on more than 1 computer......or possibly store the .VHD on the network and booting from there on multiple computers. |

For instance, if I make changes at home, run upgrades, test or install software, etc. Can I just backup the files and copy them to to my work machine? Everything would remain the same and only be used on one workstation at a time. Basically I would be able to carry my VPC around on my thumb drive. |

Instead get yourself a real USB2 connected 2.5" or smaller hard drive and put your virtual machine on that (VHD and VMC files). They are dirt cheap nowadays... Then this drive *is* your installation and can be connected (via USB) to any host PC running the same VPC2007 version as you are and run from there. No problems with duplicated VM:s anymore, your VM is the single one on your USB drive and if you have a license for it you are set to go. -- Bo Berglund |
