| | Moved VHD to laptop, annoying problem (IP conflict detected) Hi, I'm getting ready for a trip in a couple of weeks, so I moved a couple of VHDs (running under VPC 2007) from my main computer to my laptop. I created a new VMC for each VHD on the laptop after moving the VHD. Now, when I run the guests on the laptop, I'm getting a popup inside the guest every couple of minutes saying that "the system has detected an IP address conflict". I've done "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" on the guests, but still have the same problem. I've also tried setting a fixed IP address that I know doesn't exist on my network, and I still get the same popup. Does anyone know why this is occurring and how to get rid of this problem? Thanks in advance, Jim |

As I said, I've even tried setting a fixed IP address and I've even disabled the DHCP client in Windows Services, so I have no idea how it could be detecting an IP address conflict. I've also changed the MAC address in the .VMC file, and even then the problem is still occurring. Anyone? Thanks, Jim |

From the sounds of it, you're not using Shared > Networking, so...I dunno > Steve, You're correct that I'm not using Shared Networking, but had the "network" setting for the guest set to the wireless adapter (a Linksys). The reason that I said "had" was I've been doing some additional testing, where instead of the Linksys PCMCIA adapter in the laptop, I used a Buffalo USB adapter. With the Buffalo USB wireless adapter installed on the laptop, I think that I'm no longer seeing those "IP conflict" messages. I don't quite understand why switching to a different wireless adapter on the host/laptop would cause this problem, but it apparently does ...Anyway, thanks for responding. Hopefully if someone runs into this they'll find this thread and maybe it'll help them. Later, Jim |

Some work great, some don't at all. IMHO, it might be something as simple as a driver issue confilcting with the VMNS driver. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ I do not work for Microsoft. |
