Installing Win XP in a virtual PC

Hello,

I have installed Virtual PC, and am downloading a Windows XP ISO file (comes
with my MSDN Premium subscription) since a boot DVD seems not to have come
with the DVDs I got in the mail. Do I have to copy this to a CD in order to
install it into the Virtual PC or is there some easier way to do it?

Thanks,

RE: Installing Win XP in a virtual PC

I guess I figured it out by experimenting. From the console window, I did
"CD/Capture ISO image" and then after a long while and getting mysterious
messages, I have a "welcome to setup screen." (It had been my impression
from reading the help that I didn't have access to the host hard disk from
the virtual PC, but the Action/Edit/CD/Floppy menu is evidently different.)

Re: Installing Win XP in a virtual PC

Glad to hear you sorted it out. An ISO file is like a virtual cd/dvd. You
could simply have dragged the iso file on to the cd icon at the bottom of
the screen displaying the vm screen. This is equivalent to putting a cd in
the drive. You can similarly mount a floppy in the vm by dragging a .vfd
file (a virtual floppy disk) on to the floppy drive icon.
