Vista - No internet connection

No internet connection

Host PC is running Vista Home Premium. VPC OS is XP Pro. I use a USB
wireless modem to connect to the internet. I have installed Microsoft
Loopback Adapter on the host and specified that option in VPC networking
settings. Installing the loopback adapter created another local area
connection in network connections. When looking at that connection's
properties, there is no "Share" option. The guest OS can see a network and
reports that it is functioning. It cannot see the internet connection
however. I have never set up a network. What steps am I missing? Thanks.

What you now have to do is enable ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the
host machine so that the guest can share the connection. If you have never
done that, type ICS into Vista Help and Support for instructions.

Select your USB NIC as the connection to share and the loopback adapter
as the private interface in ICS. Assign the NIC in the vm to the loopback
adapter option (from Settings in the VPC Console window).

If your vm is set to get its network config automatically (which is the
default setting) the vm should get its config from ICS when it boots and be
able to connect to both the host and/or the Internet.

I thought that the ICS and NAT options both *disallowed* the guest to
connect to the *host* through the shared loopback adapter. At least
this is by what I have seen discussed here.
But both allow the Internet connection via the host.

Actually, the ICS option does allow communications between the host
and guest, it's a real local "LAN" with local addresses in the
192.168.0.x range if I remember correctly, and a "router" task to
route to the internet.

From Microsoft Help:
"Click the Sharing tab, and then select the Allow other network users to
connect through this computer’s Internet connection check box.
Note
The Sharing tab will not be available if you have only one network
connection."

This is my situation- no sharing tab to set up.

I think it is the Shared Networking option in VPC which doesn't give
you guest to host connection.

But you said in your first post the that loopback adapter showed up as
another LAC in Network Connections.

It does. But when I right click the connection and select properties, there
is only one tab in the properties window. It is labelled "Networking".
There is no "Sharing" tab to select.

On Windows XP:
- Network card properties
- Advanced tab
- Internet connection sharing box
- Checkbox "Allow other network users to connect....."

So there is no "tab" for ICS in the XP case.
What operating system do you use on the host?

Perhaps Home Premium does not support ICS.
