| | Transfering Files from VPC to Host Issue Hey Group, I'm trying to transfer a file (7.5GB in size) from my Virtual XP System to my host Vista System. Its has been tranfering file equal or larger in size for months now with no problem. Only recently it has started acting up. It starts the transfer process and makes it 50%, 75% or so and then acts like its completed. I check the file size on the host and its only 3.5GB of the file. 1.) Is there an alternative way to access and maintence the virtual disk? 2.) Is there a way to transfer the file through some other means? Thanks for any and all effort that is put into this issue of mine. Thanks Again! Daniel Trent |

Is there a way to transfer the file through some other means? You have failed to say *how* you are trying to transfer the file so it is rather hard to say what your options are.... In your situaton I would have opened a network share between the host and guset and then copied the file through that share. That usually always works provided the network is stable. But since you do not say in what way you are trying to transfer the file it is hard to advice. -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |

Quote: > Alternate from what? If you use Virtual PC then you would know that by installing the additions you can transfer "ANY" files to or from the host. In addition to the "Drag N Drop" feature. I have also tried the "Network Share" method. Both methods at this point (having worked before on the same computer "AND" operating system.) fail to completely copy "ANY(Variable meaning any file that floats my boat)" file and/or folder. Lamen Terms: Transferring files from Virtual PC to the host was a simple task until it recently stopped working properly. This leaves me with the question of: "How can I Transfer My Files to the host if the conventional methods are not working?" hmmm "Can there be another way to access a .VHD file? hmmmm "Is it possible to mount the virtual drive in the host OS?" and if so "Is there a program in which to accomplish this?" Your fumbling attempt at condescension can only be matched by your: 1.) Intellectual inability to actually read a post before writing a response. 2.) Your vain and helpless understanding of the English language. Regards, Daniel Trent |

My reaction to your post was exactly the same as Bo's, and I did not respond to it for exactly that reason. I have used Windows Networking of several computers in my home office for many years, and for me Windows Networking is a far more natural way to transfer files than the Shared Folders feature in VPC. Also, a web (or Google groups) search will quickly turn up documented problems with the Shared Folders mechanism in VPC. Are you sure you are having problems transferring using a Network Share? I have never tried this, but if you search for "VHD mount" you will get lots of hits. -- David Wilkinson Visual C++ MVP |

I simply asked you to specify the way you have tried the copy since there are several different options available. Given such a specification the alternatives would have been listed, however based on your response I deem you not worthy of any more help attempts. -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |
