Can you run Mac OS X under VPC?

Is it possible to install a Mac OS on the Microsoft VPC?
If so, any caveats?

No, the OS X installer prevents it from being installed, since it
won't detect any Apple hardware.
Also, it's a violation of Apple's licensing.

Licensing aside, you can install it on VM Ware (and an actual PC) using
OSX86 project media, your on your own to figure out where to get that and
how to do it.

Re: Can you run Mac OS X under VPC?

Thanks a lot, found it.

Don't want to start a discussion on the subject - I'm sure there are
opinions for every taste - but personally I don't think Apple's hardware
limitation thing is acceptable. Possibly not even legal.

I will buy a legal copy of Leopard, and where I chose to install it is my
private matter. I of course accept that I then forfeit my rights to
warranties and technical support.

It's perfectly legal. You're not buying the software - you're buying a
licence to use that software - and the terms and conditions of that
software's usage are described in its licence agreement.

As above, what you are paying for is not a copy of Leopard (legal or
otherwise) but rather the licence to use it..

You can choose to walk out of a shop without paying for something - just
because you care capable of doing it doesn't make it any less illegal...

I have no idea about the actual legality of any EULAs.

Just be careful of any DMCA issues. (I have no idea if it's illegal
via the DMCA, but circumventing copy protection has some issues...)
Just a warning, I'm sure there's discussion about this somewhere on
the web, but it's an Apple issue, not VPC...

Apple is the definition of monopoly.

I hope they keep it up.

"You reap what you sow."

As for EULAs, it is a contract. If you install the software, you agreed to it. End of argument. Let's not bring political correctness into legal contracts.

This is exactly correct. I have personally installed OS X on my own PC.
Apple can NOT tell me where I can install software that I purchased. This
would NOT hold up in any court. Imagine if you had to buy a "Microsoft PC"
in order to "legally" run Office! MS would be sued so fast your head would
spin, yet there are people who actually defend Apple on this point.

Screw Apple. It may be against their EULA, but it is NOT "against the
law"!

IAC, OS X does not boot under VPC. It can be made to boot under VMWare (I
have done it), but it is so slow as to be basically useless. You need to go
here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?

and do much reading! It CAN be done, but it ranges from simple to a royal
pain in the rear, depending on what hardware you have. Your best bet is to
stick with hardware as close to Apple's as you can get - same chipsets,
networking, video cards, etc.

Having said all of the above, ultimately I found that I don't use OS X at
all these days. 64 bit Vista is so good that I haven't booted OS X in
months. I still have OS X 10.5.1 - on this PC and on my "real Mac" - and
10.5.5 was just released. It just doesn't do anything that can't be done
easier and cheaper in Vista.
