Metalix TD

OK I admit that I am hooked on Metalix TD,
( http://www.shockwave.com/content/met.../metalixtd.swf )
The problem is that it takes a long time to get to level 27 or higher, then
all it takes is a twitch, or muscle cramp to make the wrong mouse click and
lose the game and have to start right back at level 1 again. Level 1 through
twenty are so boring that sometimes I lose on them because I am bored and not
paying attention, so I have heard that some people are using virtual machine
or virtual box to save the settings and to choose to start at a previously
played level instead of having to start at level one over again.
Any suggestions/ help?
I enjoy playing games, but I am not a pro, or expert, (I admit, I'm slow and
below average gamer, but I still like the occasional game) so all of you who
are really good and have the lighting reactions just open a new post and
label it "trash" because I already know that there a lot of players who are
better than me so your opinion doesn't count.

I and others who don't have 16 hours a day to play still like to spend a
little time relaxing, but don't appreciate having to go through the boring
stages to get to the interesting ones. (and perhaps we don't have the time or
talent to learn and decode programming codes.

You could try posting in a more appropriate newsgroup. This one, as its name
suggests, is for Microsoft Virtual PC...

It's probably not VPC if they're using snapshots. VPC doesn't offer
this as a direct feature. There are ways to hack around this, but its
not a standard feature.
If you're looking at just playing for a while and stopping, then you
could simply just play the game in a VM, then save the VM, and
theoretically, then you'd just restore the saved state and if you
assume that the shockwave app can reconnect you should be ok.

Have you tried to get more details from those players that have done
it on that site you mentioned?

I am not a gamer, however...................

I just read this thread and perhaps you are talking about something in VPC
which would make this the proper forum.......

If you do not have the time to finish a game, but do not want to start it
over (and maybe fall asleep in the early levels:-)) you may be looking for
a VPC function called "save state". That will save the state of the
machine *at the point* of the command, consume no more resources until you
'restart it'. But it starts at the same point where you saved it, it has
not been shut it down in the commonly accepted sense -- simply suspended.

There are some technical aspects of .vsv files, etc., that you do not need
to know to take advantage of 'saved state'. (but it won't hurt to know
them.)

All you really need to know is that in the windowed display of the VM
(higher than DOS), the 'X' radio button [top right] gives a dropdown box
choice of "turn off", shut down xx, and save state. Choose "save state",
the VM will drop back to the console which will show it as "saved".

(You could also make multiple copies of the exact same saved state and
always start at level 20, but that gets a little more complex)

Saved state is what would work. There is no way to speed up the game
(unless you are a programmer, whereby you could take advantage of a program,
called "cheatengine" and reverse engineer the program.) So it seems to take
forever to get to the challenging levels. It is possible to open numerous
windows and play up to the desired level and to try different combinations of
"weapons" at the same session. However the game delivers the "enemy" at the
same rate irregardless of how good or bad the player is doing. I tend to
liken the game to the modern version of Pachinko, a useless mindless game
that delivers an adrenaline rush in the end.
I have a sometimes stressful job (Repair technician) and blanking out my
mind (and not dwelling on the negatives) is my way of going to work with a
smile and the phrase: "I LOVE this place." Poolboy is the nickname that I
picked for the most useless person at a resort or apartment complex, (unless
you have ever caught something from an improperly maintained pool!).

All said and done the objective is perhaps not to save multiple copies, but
to consistently restart at the desired saved state, (When the saved level
becomes boring an hour or two could be spent to save multiple windows or tabs
at a higher level.)

Face thanks for recognizing the question and not throwing out a useless
answer to increase your number or statistic of postings.
