Can Virtual PC and Virtual Server Run On the Same Host At The Same Time?

I am setting up a development/test machine running Vista Ultimate. I would
like to run a few virtual XP Pro machines and one or two virtual servers.
The virtual XP Pro machines require Virtual PC. The virtual servers require
Virtual Server. Can the two virtual systems run on the same host at the
same time?

Yes, no problems at all. However, if you try to run other VM software
(VBox, VMWare) you'll need to disable hardware virtualization in one
of them if you want to run them concurrently.

They do co-operate. I have a VS server running 24/7 on my PC, and I
can start and use both VPC2007 and VMWare Workstation regardless of
the VS machine in the background.

What you should be aware of is that every guest running will need its
chunk of the host system resources like RAM and this can be the
limiting factor on how many you can run simultaneously.
A typical guest needs say 500 Mb RAM and if you have a 2 Gb system you
can only run two guests since the Vista host requires 1 Gb all by
itself.

Thanks for the heads up. I am only running the VMs to do testing so each
one have very little installed (other than the OS). I have one testing just
a VPN and it works fine with the 128MB minimum. I assume the typical guest
you are referring to is actually being used by an end user to do a verity of
tasks. What is nice is since the VMs have almost no hardware defined they
restart in seconds. Of course I haven't installed Virtual Server and the
machines that will run on it -- I expect they will not be quite as peppy.
