Vista - hardware virtualization

Why hardware virtualization is disabled on my VPC?
I have very modern computer, Pentium 3.6 GHz Dual Core, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB
hardrive and NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT video card.
What prevents VPC from using hardware virtualization ?

That's idiot Dell for you. I was assured before I got this machine that it
would be supported and it is on the CPU but not in the bios. I have the
latest bios.

Hardware virtualization support you need to ask the vendor specifically
before purchase and then check it immediately when you get the machine so
you can return the machine if it isn't there. It is true that it may just be
turned off in the bios but it may not be in the bios at all. Dell bios are
bare bones.

I have several machines with Core 2 Duo (or Core 2 Quad) CPUs. All had the
hardware virtualization off in the BIOS. I had to enable it myself. My
point above was to make sure it is enabled in the BIOS, although as you
point out, it may not even be a BIOS option! Ouch!

I have found setting in BIOS and now my VPC has enabled Hardware
Virtualization.
However, there is another problem.
My guest is Vista.
When I start Freecell game in it it starts with the following message:
"
Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card
driver.....
"
Is that normal for VPC ?

I don't know what program you are talking about above. The fact that VPC
says it is not available is all you need to know.

But your CPU has to support it, AND it has to be installed in a motherboard
with a chipset that supports it AND it has to be enabled in the BIOS. If
one of these is not correct, then VPC isn't going to use it.

As I said, all of my machines that support it (4) had it off by default in
the BIOS. I had to enable it in all 4. When enabled, the machine shuts
itself down and reboots. Changing this option requires a hard reset to
change the CPU state. When rebooted, VPC then said it was available.
