| | "Use physical drive <x>" not available I am running VPC 2007 SP1 on Windows Vista SP1. I am trying to create a Windows Server 2008 guest and have a DVD available in Drive F:. From the host machine I can browse this DVD just fine but when I invoke the guest I have created, the “Use physical Drive F” option is grayed out. I’ve been hunting around and found references to AutoPlay and other factors that might result in this being grayed out - but I haven’t located any explanation that fixed the issue for me. What are the possible reasons that this option would be grayed out? FWIW, I have two DVD drives in the machine (Drive E: is the other one) and both are grayed out. |

Workaround: - Create an ISO file from the DVD (you can use WinImage for this) - Capture the ISO file as the disk on the guest when started - Reset the guest from the top menu Now it should boot from the ISO media and start the installation. This method of installation is much quicker too (if you don't count the time to make the ISO). -- Bo Berglund (Sweden) |
